How does it all work?

Your donation goes directly into our UK registered SLDARA charity account. From there, we send secure donations to our lead liaison on the ground, Philo, who has worked for SLDARA the past 15 years and is based in Freetown.

We will send you a few fun facts about the young person you will be sponsoring, along with a picture to help you get to know them over email.

We are currently building toilet facilities for a rural school, providing electricity to communities utilising renewable solar energy and creating two football facilities.

Philo visits the respective schools or community projects personally to pay for items like school fees and sends us the receipts. Philo also meets with each student before they enrol to make sure they have all the necessary uniforms, books and stationary for school or university.

Founded by Dr. Gbla in 1998, our leadership team including members of his family, bring years of experience to bear on some of the greatest challenges in Sierra Leone. We also work closely with our partner non-profit in the Netherlands, SKSL (Stichting Kinderhulp Sierra Leone) which was founded in 1985 and has been providing aid to children in the nation for an incredible 39 years. We’re results driven, with a proven record of success.

The first promise we made is a promise we still keep today: 100% of all public donations will support community projects in education, sport and healthcare for the the people of Sierra Leone.
Transparency is one of our core values, so along with using every penny you donate to fund our projects in Sierra Leone, we also prove each project with photos and yearly reporting.
